Review of Change
Principles of nature (of change):
- matter
- form
- privation
I still don't get substantial change
Aristotle: What is the Soul?
Soul is "something of a body"
- soul isn't body itself
- like health, soul is never found without body
- soul seems like it would be an accident, but losing it (death) is a substantial change
- therefore soul must be related to substance
- substance is substantial form and prime matter
- soul must be one of
composite of matter and form- we don't point to "souls" in themselvesprime matter- soul causes actuality, not potency- substantial form!!!
- soul must be one of
- matter is potency
- form makes matter "actual"
