Aquinas. On the Principles of Nature
- All artificial forms are accidental: A chair is just wood that has been shaped
- Privation vs. negation
- privation implies a potency (i.e., something should be the case)
- negation does not determine the subject
- e.g., not-seeing versus blindness: rocks are not-seeing, and they aren't apt to see
- prime matter
- principle - that which is prior (first)
- cause - among all principles that exist, there are some from which other existence follows
- element - that from which a reality is primarily composed, and it exists in a reality, and it is not divided with respect to its form
