Conditional "Syllogism"

Disjunctive "Syllogism"

Induction

  • Type of abstraction
  • Enumerating all (or representative) population within genus and drawing a conclusion
  • NOT a syllogism; NOT ALWAYS demonstrative unless exhaustive

Example

Even weaker than induction. Combines an induction with a syllogism:

Since...

D is A
D is B
------
B is A

Therefore...

B is A
C is B
------
C is A

Enthymeme

  • Looks like an abbreviated syllogism
  • Doesn't necessarily yield a conclusion unless the appealed sign is infallible
