Troubleshooting the Front USB Panel
- Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX full-tower case front panel contains:
- 2× USB 3.1 ports Not Working
- 2× USB 2.0 ports Not Working
- Audio input (mic) 3 mm jack
- Audio output (headphones) 3 mm jack
- ATX reset button
Symptoms
- In Windows,
- USB mass storage devices do not mount when plugged into any of the USB ports
- USB Interface devices (mouse, keyboard, etc.) do not work when plugged into any of the USB ports
- In Linux,
- USB devices are shown properly in
lsusb - Mass storage devices are not added to the block devices table (
lsblk) - Kernel messages (
dmesg) shows repeated "reset high-speed usb device number NN using xhci_hcd" and "buffer I/O error on dev" when devices plugged into any front USB port

Actions Taken
- Move both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 plugs to alternate USB header pins on motherboard: same symptoms
- Try known-working USB 2.0 front panel from older machine: same symptoms
- Re-flash BIOS (already at latest version): same symptoms
- Clear CMOS: same symptoms
- Try Enthoo Pro case front panel in different machine with same model motherboard: all ports work as expected
- Open/Isolated setup: same symptoms
- Remove motherboard from case and place on non-conductive surface
- unplug all peripherals except for 1 RAM stick, M.2 SSD, graphics card (no onboard graphics), mouse, keyboard, and front panel USB plugs

Defective USB headers or controller on motherboard
