Substance
substance is that which neither is said of any subject nor is in any subject
Examples: this horse, this man
Hierarchy of substance
- primary substance is a particular thing
- secondary substance is what can be said of a subject (e.g., man, animal)
- a primary substance's form (in the Aristotelian sense) is one example of secondary substance
